    Ground Beef with Sauerkraut/Karni Mulá ku Zuurkool


    Ingredients

    • 1 lb of grounded stew beef
    • 1 medium onion
    • 1 green pepper
    • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
    • 3/4 cup of tomato paste
    • Some capers
    • 1½ lb of potatoes
    • 1 medium can of sliced pineapple (about 20oz can)
    • 1 medium can of saurkraut (about 20 oz can)
    • 2 tablespoon of butter (1 tablespoon for the meat, 1 tablespoon for potatoes)
    • 1 or 2 small boxes Raisons
    • Nutmeg and salt to taste 
    • 1½ cup of milk


    Preparation

    1. Preheat oven to 375°
    2. Peel potatoes, cut them in fout pieces and put them to boil with some salt water
    3. Chopped the onion and the green pepper
    4. In a cooking pot, add the ground beef,1 tablespoon of butter, chopped onion, chopped pepper, garlic pow, nutmeg, salt and let it cook while stirring the content
    5. Add the tomato paste after the beef started to cook
    6. When the meat seems almost done cooking, add the capers and take it of the heat
    7. When the potatoes are soft, drain them and mash them with 1 tablespoon of butter and add the milk to it. 
      Note: If you like your mash potato very creamy, you can add more milk, or cream, or mascapone in it to the creamy consistancy you like.
    8. In a baking pan, we pour all the ground beef mixture, and spread it evenly accross
    9. Now drain all the liguid from the saurkraut and put a layer of saurkraut on top of the beef. Make sure it fully cover the beef accros the pan
    10. Open and drain the pineapple can, and put the pinapple rings on top of the saurkraut accross the whole pan
    11. Now springkle the raisins on top. Amount to taste.
    12. Now we will pour the mashed potato on top and cover completely.
    13. Put the pan in the oven and allow it to cook for about 30 minutes until the top of the potato is golden brown
    14. Take it out of the oven and let it cool down a little and it is ready to serve.
